If you are dealing with damage right now

Your safety comes first. If anyone is hurt or a fire is still burning, call 911. Once everyone is safe, the steps below can limit the damage until help arrives.

Water or a burst pipe

  • Shut off the main water valve if water is still running.
  • If water is near outlets, appliances or the panel, stay out. Turn off power to the affected area only if you can do it safely from a dry spot.
  • Move valuables, papers and electronics to a dry room.
  • Photograph and video the damage before anything is moved.
  • Do not use a household vacuum on standing water.

Burst pipe damage

Sewage backup

  • Do not touch the water, and keep children and pets out of the area.
  • Do not run fans, a vacuum or the heating and cooling system, which can spread contaminated particles.
  • Stop using sinks, toilets and the washing machine.
  • Throw away food that may have been touched by the backup.

Sewage backup cleanup

Fire or smoke

  • Do not re-enter until the fire department says it is safe.
  • Do not run the heating and cooling system, which can pull soot through the house.
  • Do not wipe soot off surfaces.
  • Keep a list of damaged belongings and take photos if it is safe to do so.

Fire & smoke damage

Storm damage

  • Treat downed power lines as live and stay away. Report them to the utility.
  • Stay out of rooms with sagging ceilings or visible structural damage.
  • Photograph damage before cleanup or temporary repairs.
  • Arrange temporary board-up or tarping to keep out more weather, and keep your receipts.

What happens when you call

Call 636-498-1000. We will ask what happened, where the damage is, and whether anyone is in danger. If the problem is still getting worse, we will tell you what to do while we plan next steps.

From there, the work follows the steps on our restoration process page: inspection, stabilization, drying, cleaning and repairs.

Insurance

You do not need to sort out your claim before you call us. We work directly with your insurance company, document the damage and can bill the insurer directly. Coverage depends on your policy. Learn more on our insurance claims assistance page.

Document before you clean

Take photos and video of the damage and keep damaged items until they have been documented. This helps your claim and helps us plan the work.
