- Familiarity with moisture meters
Mitigation is the first response in a restoration job. It is the work that stops the damage from getting worse: pulling out water, setting the drying equipment and watching the numbers until the structure is dry.
What the work looks like
As a technician at Bales Cleaning and Restoration, you will work on losses such as a burst pipe or a flooded basement. You will extract water, remove materials that cannot be saved, and set up equipment designed to dry what is left. After that, you will return to take moisture readings and record them in a log, so there is a clear record of how the drying went.
Some jobs involve mold or contaminated water. Those follow specific protocols, with containment and protective equipment, and you will work under the direction of a supervisor while you learn them.
Learning the science
Drying a building is more than putting fans in a room. Water moves through materials in ways that are not obvious, and the standards that guide our industry, set by the IICRC, explain how to handle it. We are an IICRC Certified Firm, and technicians who want to learn those standards will find plenty to learn on the job.
Why people stay in this work
The work is physical and no two days look alike. You will often meet people on a stressful day. You will also build skills in a trade that is needed after floods, freezes and storms.
We are a local company based in St. Charles, serving St. Charles and St. Louis Counties, so most of your work will be close to home.
